This October 4th, the Feast Day of St. Francis, the world commemorates 800 years since the Saint’s death in 1226. Every day I pass our living room where, prominently framed on our wall, is a copy of the Peace Prayer of St. Francis, a famous Christian prayer that seeks to make the speaker an instrument of peace, love, and understanding.

For years, the engine that powered the rope tow at the Ski Bowl in North Creek – believed to be the first rope tow in New York State – lay abandoned in the woods a few hundred feet from the access road to the state-owned Gore Mountain Ski Center. 
There is an annual tradition near the end of every ski season at Gore Mountain – a party sponsored by the Backwoods Ski Club for the workers and volunteers who make the season happen.
Gore Mountain has announced it is open for scenic skyrides, hiking, lift-serviced downhill mountain biking, and disc golf Thursday-Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm during the summer. Retail and food service will also be available. 
The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) is beginning its summer construction season at Whiteface, Gore and Belleayre Mountains with a range of projects designed to deliver greater lift capacity, enhanced snowmaking, expand facility spaces, and provide a more robust online reservation system.
