American Ambulance Field Service in WWI
On Saturday, May 13 at 2 pm, the Wilderstein Historic Site will host a lecture about the American ambulance field service in World War One, by Thomas Fife.
“Alsace Revisited: American Ambulance Field Service Section Three 1915 to 1916” will discuss the beginnings of the American Ambulance Field Service in France and chronicle American Ambulance driver Henry Suckley’s eldest son Henry’s participation with Section Three during its first two years in Alsace and at the Battle of Verdun. New Exhibit: Wilderstein And The White House
Wilderstein house museum in Rhinebeck, New York, has announced that its 2014 exhibition will explore the connections between the Wilderstein estate and American Presidents over two centuries. The exhibit will feature costumes, textiles, decorative arts, photographs, books, and more – all from the Wilderstein collections. Many of these objects will be on public display for the first time.
The exhibit opens with their regular tour season on May 1 and will run through the end of October, Thursday to Sunday, from noon until 4 pm. Wilderstein’s Contemporary Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit
Wilderstein Historic Site will host a second exhibition of contemporary outdoor sculptures by emerging Hudson Valley artists beginning June 3. A preview party will be held on Saturday, June2, from 5 to 7 pm.
Participating artists include: Jan Abt, Benjamin Ayers, John Belardo, Andy Fennell, Sarah Haviland, Richard Heinrich, Jeremy Holmes, Steve Keltner, Malcolm MacDougall, J. Pindyck Miller and Craig Usher.
Wilderstein is a historic house museum in Rhinebeck, New York. The estate, with its exquisite Queen Anne mansion and Calvert Vaux designed landscape, is widely regarded as the Hudson Valley’s most important example of Victorian architecture. The last person to reside at Wilderstein was Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, whose relationship with Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been well-chronicled and is the subject of much interest. Gift shop, hiking trails, and spectacular Hudson River views.
The exhibition will be open daily between 9 am and 4 pm through the end of October. Sponsored by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.

Wilderstein Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit, Reception
A strong tradition of patronage by the Suckley family during their tenure at Wilderstein combined with the natural beauty and architectural majesty of the estate makes it an ideal setting for showcasing the arts.
The first of its kind at Wilderstein, Modern Art & The Romantic Landscape, features outdoor contemporary sculptures by a talented group of emerging Hudson Valley artists. Participants include Emil Alzamora, Andy Fennell, Sarah Haviland, Malcolm D. MacDougall III, Arnaldo Ugarte, and Craig Usher. The exhibit opens may 21st with a reception at 4 pm.
The exhibition is made possible in part through a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council. Additional support provided by Central Hudson, Charles Hewett, and Duane & Linda Watson.
Wilderstein is open daily between 9 am and dusk through the end of October.
Wilderstein Opens for the Summer
Overlooking the Hudson River in Rhinebeck, Wilderstein Historic Site is an exquisite Queen Anne mansion and Calvert Vaux designed landscape, widely regarded as the Hudson Valley’s most important example of Victorian architecture.
Visitors to Wilderstein learn about the history of the estate and its inhabitants, explore the grounds and walking trails, and experience the mansion’s unique architecture and lavish 1888 interiors.
Tours are available May – October, Thursday – Sunday, from noon – 4 PM. Group Tours are welcome by reservation during and outside regular tour hours.
