Proposed-Oxbow-DamThe Raquette River, from Raquette Falls to the State Boat Launch on Tupper Lake, is one of the nicest stretches of flat-water anywhere in the Adirondacks. Paddling this river corridor under a clear cerulean blue sky, on a sunny autumn day with the riverbanks ablaze in orange and red, is exquisite. Wild Center Announces Drive-In Movie Theater Nights

Wild Center's Drive-In Movie TheaterThe Wild Center in Tupper Lake has converted a portion of their Meadow parking lot into a drive-in movie theater. Adirondack Wild Center Reopening

Wild Center visitorsThe Wild Center has announced that they will begin a phased reopening on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, starting with Wild Walk and outdoor experiences.

Wild Center Hosts Ways of Knowing Celebration

Ways of Knowing CelebrationThe Wild Center, located at 45 Museum Dr, Tupper Lake, is set to celebrate its Ways of Knowing partnership project on Saturday, July 6th from 10 am to 5 pm.

Following the celebration, the Center will host Joanne Shenandoah in concert from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Together for the first time, Ways of Knowing and Joanne Shenandoah will explore the perspectives that different cultures have through their connection with nature and present a deeper look into Native American tradition and expression. Great Camp Eagle Island Celebration Planned

Eagle Island CampEagle Island, Inc. is sponsoring a celebration of Great Camp Eagle Island on Wednesday, August 15, at 7 pm at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. The event will feature award-winning Adirondack folk singer Dan Berggren.

Eagle Island was designed in 1903 by Adirondack architect William Coulter for Levi P. Morton, the former U.S. Vice President and former Governor of New York. In 1910 the camp was sold to Henry Graves Jr. who donated this Great Camp to the Girl Scout Council of the Oranges, New Jersey in 1937. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003, it was operated as a summer Girl Scout Camp for 70 years thru 2008; in 2010 the Girl Scouts put Eagle Island up for sale. Wild Center Wins Grant For Project with Native American Partners

the wild centerThe Wild Center has been awarded $245,000 from a federal grant program to fund a collaborative project that will honor indigenous perspective and knowledge and incorporate it into the everyday museum experience. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced recently that the Tupper Lake museum was successful in its grant application for $245,161 for a Museums for America Grant for its Two Row project.

The Two Row project will bring several Native American tribal entities and indigenous knowledge experts together to help The Wild Center incorporate traditional ecological knowledge, different perspectives and culture into its exhibits and experiences. The Wild Center will partner with the Six Nations Indian Museum, the Akwesasne Cultural Center, the Indigenous Education Institute, and the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry for this three-year project.
