archives 2The 2015 New York Archives Conference (NYAC) will take place on June 3-5, 2015 at SUNY Fredonia, in Fredonia, New York.

The New York Archives Conference is an organization that once a year brings together archivists, manuscript curators, local historians and local government record keepers to discuss issues of mutual concern to professional holders of historical records. SUNY Fredonia May Launch Public History Program

December 3, 2009 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

The History Department at SUNY Fredonia is considering creating a graduate certificate program in Public History that will provide training in historical methods, archival methods, exhibition planning and preparation, and historic resource management.

They envision a program that would require 15-18 graduate credit hours (5-6 courses), including course work in Public History and applied skills, historical research methodology, directed readings, and an internship and/or practicum. The courses would be available to both full- and part-time students and all courses included in the program would be applicable to an Interdisciplinary M.A./M.S. at SUNY Fredonia.

So that they can best tailor the program to meet the needs of the Western New York community and their own students, they have created a brief survey about interest and possible enrollment in the program or related courses.

The survey, which should only require a few minutes to complete, will provide valuable feedback as they move forward with planning the program. All responses will remain anonymous and will be used for no other purpose than preparing our program proposal.

Call For Papers: Reconsidering the City

February 24, 2009 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

The History Department of SUNY Fredonia requests proposals for a conference, “Reconsidering the City,” scheduled for April 2010. The conference will explore new directions in the field of Urban History. How do Urban Historians define “the city”? How do scholars today conceptualize the field of Urban History? We welcome proposals for individual papers or panels that address these conceptual issues as well as proposals that highlight new work being done in Urban History in both western and non-western contexts. Paper proposals should be no more than 500 words; panel proposals should also include a brief (250-word) summary of the panel and its theme. Please send proposals and a one-page cv electronically to Mary Beth Sievens, Associate Chair, Department of History, SUNY Fredonia: sievens@fredonia.edu.

The deadline for proposals is March 13, 2009.
