Newburgh’s Weigand Tavern Archeology Update

When excavated soil from a foundation wall on the verge of collapse adjacent to a colonial era cemetery was cleared for disposal by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), some quick-thinking workers at the site thought better.

NYS Nominates 22 For State, National Register

New York State ParksThe New York State Board for Historic Preservation has nominated 22 properties and districts to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The State and National Registers are the official lists of buildings, structures, districts, landscapes, objects and sites significant in the history, architecture, archeology and culture of New York State and the nation.  Property owners, municipalities and organizations from communities throughout the state sponsored the nominations. Take The Online Survey:
NYS Historic Preservation Plan Input Sought

New York State ParksThe New York State Division for Historic Preservation, including the State Historic Preservation Office, is updating the state’s historic preservation plan, which provides a blueprint for strengthening and expanding preservation efforts across the Empire State.

Public input is an important component of the planning process and they are taking a two-pronged approach. They have developed an online survey (available through the survey link) as well as a more in-depth questionnaire (see below).  Those with an interest in New York’s history can take the public survey online here:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NYSPreservationSurvey
