Civil War Weekend at Robert Moses State Park

Soldiers line up for their pay at last year’s Civil War Reenactment WeekendThe St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend at Robert Moses State Park in Massena has been set for Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29.

The military camps are open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday. Mock battles will be at 3 pm Saturday and 1 pm Sunday. Closing ceremonies will follow the Sunday battle. The Marine Corps League, St. Lawrence County Detachment #408 provides a food concession both days. Chair-Caning Workshops Planned For Canton

Chair caningThe St. Lawrence County Historical Association is offering a low cost chair-caning workshop on three consecutive Wednesday evenings, March 7, 14, and 21 from 7-9 pm. Carl Stickney, instructor for the workshop, has decades of experience in chair caning.

Participants in the workshop should bring a chair with the old caning removed. The appropriate chair, which will take a caned seat, has holes around the inner edge of the opening in the chair seat frame. These holes are also visible from the underside of the chair. Civil War Weekend Planned For Robert Moses State Park

2nd Michigan on the fieldThe St. Lawrence County Historical Association will hold its annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend at Robert Moses State Park in Massena Saturday and Sunday July 26–27. The Civil War Reenactment Weekend is part of the SLCHA’s Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which began in 1861.

Union and Confederate reenactors will stage mock battles, perform military drills, talk about camp life, and demonstrate such skills as coffin-making, cooking, cannon firing, and medical practices. 60th NY Volunteers Band Civil WarSt. Lawrence County’s Civil War Veterans is the topic for discussion at the next St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA) Civil War Roundtable this Sunday, March 30th, 2 p.m. at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St., Canton.

John Austin will tell about his project to document all of St. Lawrence County’s Civil War veterans. The North Country Civil War Roundtable is part of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which was fought from 1861-1865. Canton Event: North Country Women of Courage

Koch, Sarah Raymond sepiaThree women’s suffrage activists, four educators, two musicians, an artist, a psychiatrist, and a writer. These are just some of the amazing careers led by North Country Women of Courage who will be the subject of the Patricia Harrington Carson Brown Bag Lunch program tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th at noon at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St., Canton.

St. Lawrence Co Historical Society Annual Meeting

Lisbon, New York encompassed all of the land that became St. Lawrence County when the town was created in 1801. At that time the Town of Lisbon was part of Clinton County, and the county of St. Lawrence was not created until the following year, 1802.

Lisbon’s history is the focus of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s 65th Annual Meeting at the Lisbon Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall, 48 Church St., Lisbon on Saturday, November 3rd from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. The public is invited and you do not have to be a member of the SLCHA to attend.
