Creating History Education Partnerships: Three Case Studies

Integrating Primary Sources Through Local History Research

rome historical society “Integrating Primary Sources through Local History,”  a program that will explore the use of local history as a way to teach and encourage historical thinking skills, will be held on Wednesday March 27, at 5 pm in Rome, NY.

The program will feature Camden High School Social Studies Teacher Jessica Harney and Camden High School Media Specialist Jennine Bloomquist who will share ways in which primary source research can help generate excitement in today’s youth. From researching deeds, to field archaeology, and building community partnerships, this program will help attendees encourage youth to be historians. ‘Day of History’ Funded Columbia County 4th Graders

Peter Feinman: Civics and High School History Education

Institute of history archaeology and educationIn the previous post, I raised the issue of the state of civics in education. I examined the situation in some states including Virginia, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

At the beginning of this school year in September, the Connecticut High School History Council (CTHSHC) issued a call to high school students. CTHSHC, a program of the Connecticut Public Affairs Network (CPAN), is a statewide student group conceived by Glastonbury High School seniors. It is made up of students from all around the state who share a passion for history and civics and want to create constructive change using their interest. Fort Ti History Educators Conference Planned For May

fort ticonderoga“The Great Wars: The French & Indian War and the First World War” will be the focus of the Tenth Annual History Conference for Educators to be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Fort Ticonderoga.

Sessions focused on the French & Indian War (known as the Seven Years’ War in Europe) and World War I will answer the question on how global conflict affects local communities. Participants will learn about the scope and impact of “Great Wars” on society in general through the study of primary accounts.
