DEC Issues Adirondack Mud Season Trails Advisory

mud season trail work courtesy DECThe New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is urging hikers to postpone hikes on trails above 2,500 feet until high elevation trails have dried and hardened. As snow and ice continue to melt at high elevations, steep trails can pose a danger to hikers due to thick ice and deep, rotten snow. Featured Adirondack Hike: Owen, Copperas, and Winch Ponds

owens copperas winch ponds mapThese three ponds are located in the Sentinel Range Wilderness Area, in North Elba, Essex County, and offer excellent loop opportunities, and provides views of the scenic wilderness ponds, their picturesque shorelines and 3,616-foot Stewart Mountain and 3,892-foot Kilburn Mountain.
