Cones & Canals Series Kicking Off At Schoharie Crossing

Erie Eats: Cones and CanalsSchoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be the kick-off location for the Erie Canal Museum’s “Erie Eats: Cones and Canals” cycling and walking series, on Saturday, July 10th.

Every other Saturday at 11 am throughout the summer, the series will feature an hour-long guided tour, either by bike or by foot (depending on location), along the new Empire State Trail while highlighting unique Canal history. Schoharie Crossing Offering Program on NJ’s Morris Canal

Map of the Morris Canal in 1827In 1824 the Morris Canal & Banking Company was chartered to build a canal that would carry coal to developing markets along the eastern seaboard. The canal would pass through the heart of New Jersey’s iron district and provide the long-needed transportation system that would create new commercial activity. Anna Schram & Montgomery County’s Civil War Nurses

Mrs Anna Maria B Schram c1910Anna B. Schram was Department President of the Association of Army Nurses.  During the Civil War, she volunteered as an unpaid nurse under Drs. McKenzie and Haynes.

She was stationed at a Union Army camp outside of Fredericksburg, where she remained for 10 months caring for the sick and wounded of Antietam and South Mountain until illness forced her to return home. [Read more…] about Anna Schram & Montgomery County’s Civil War Nurses
