The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced the acquisition of approximately 1,624 acres of conservation easement on lands in Northern New York from the Open Space Institute (OSI).
Approximately 1,414 acres were acquired through a conservation easement held by OSI on lands owned by Chazy Resource Management Inc. (CRMI) in Clinton County, while a 210-acre conservation easement in Essex County on lands owned by OSI was also purchased. On Thursday, September 12 at about 8:15 am, New York State Police (NYSP) notified Ray Brook Dispatch that they had found a vehicle at the Cold Brook Public Use Area in the Sable Highlands Conservation Easement in town of Saranac, Clinton County, NY, belonging to a 29-year-old subject from Wisconsin who had been reported missing by his family on September 9th. Thank you, Anne Gilliland, for asking the question – What’s in a name? On October 31, 1931, Anne was asked to read a paper to the Major Benjamin Mooers Chapter of the Daughters of 1812 in Plattsburgh, NY. Her paper? “What’s in a name? – a lot of history, that’s what!.”
