Paul Smith’s College Names New President

paul smiths college logoThe Paul Smith’s College Board of Trustees, has announced that Dr. Jon Calvert Strauss became the eleventh president of the college on July 15, 2020.

Strauss will serve in an interim capacity to provide executive leadership and advance the college’s strategic plan while the institution embarks on a comprehensive search process to replace outgoing president Dr. Cathy S. Adirondack Park Boat Inspections Rise 25% Over 2019

Adirondack Watershed Stewards have reported a 25% increase in the number of watercraft inspections at Adirondack boat launches compared with this time last year.

The Adirondack Region had already been experiencing increased tourism even before the current pandemic. An Adk Lake’s Sufferings: High Salt Load, 22 Less Days of Ice

Mirror Lake water quality reportMirror Lake, along which the Village of Lake Placid is spread, is no longer flowing like it should, and has been iced-over an average of 22 days less since the 1990s. High concentrations of road salt and climate change are considered the culprits.

Paul Smith’s College President Cathy Dove Retiring

paul smiths college logoCathy S. Dove, president of Paul Smith’s College, has announced she will retire on September 30th, 2020.

Dove, who joined the college in 2014, has overseen a wide variety of initiatives at the college, including the introduction of a master’s degree program, expanded undergraduate offerings, and the expansion of athletics including esports, women’s ice hockey and the rollout of a program for student athletes that ties to US Biathlon and USA Nordic.
