new york state history monthNext month, October, is New York State History Month. As usual, the State Museum is planning several activities and offers suggestions for commemorations. October is New York State History Month

Originally, November was designated as New York State History Month by the New York State Legislature in 1997 with the addition of Section 57.02 to the state’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Law.

Since many history-related organizations close after Columbus Day, legislation was passed in 2019 that changed History Month to October to allow for more organizational participation and to align with the state’s Path Through History Weekend. NYS History Month Talks At Schoharie Crossing

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site is set to hold its fourth annual Tuesday Talk series to recognize New York State History Month this November. Each week a speaker will present on regional or New York State history.

Schoharie Crossing’s NYS History Month Series Set

nys history month logoSchoharie Crossing State Historic Site will conduct its third annual Tuesday Talk series to recognize New York State History Month this November. Each week a speaker will present on regional or New York State history.

This year, the series starts on Tuesday the 7th with Liaisons Plaisantes performing music from the early 19th century. Music during the early part of the 19th century was not only entertainment but also connected people and communities. All along the turnpikes and canals of New York, music reflected the culture, political, social movements and a changing world view in light of new innovations.
