Museums Advocacy Call Thurs, Registration Deadline Today

Museum Associaion of New York (MANY) staff, members of their Board of Directors’ Advocacy Committee and MANY’s government relations consultant Sheila Healy will lead a conference call July 18th to discuss museum advocacy efforts and recent legislation.

Recently passed New York State legislation is expected to impact museums’ relationships with their communities and their financial sustainability. The call will also address the museum community’s efforts to increase in funding to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) in 2020. Museum Association of NY Announces Awards of Merit

many logoThe Museum Association of New York (MANY) has announced their 2019 Awards of Merit that will be presented to twelve individuals, museums, exhibitions, and programs from across New York State.

The Awards of Merit were judged for programs conducted in 2018 and will be presented as part of the Museum Association of New York’s 2019 conference “Access and Identity” at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 8 am. NYS museums delegates with Senator Chuck Schumer Museums Advocacy Day 2019

I am writing from American Alliance of Museums’ Museum Advocacy Day where 300 museum professionals will be speaking up for museums on Capitol Hill, in Washington D.C. — 26 are from 18 of New York’s Congressional Districts comprising the largest delegation represented.

New York State Congressional Representatives are critically important to federal funding for museums. The new Chair of the House Appropriations Committee is Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17). Senator Gillibrand (D-NY) is the author of the Institute of Museum and Library Services re-appropriation letter in the U.S. Senate.  Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY20) is one of the bill sponsors in the House. Annual NY Museums Conference Registration Now Open

The MANY Annual Conference is the largest gathering for both established and emerging museum professionals in New York State. Museum Association of NY Announces Fall Programming

The Museum Institute at Great Camp SagamoreEach fall, the Museum Association of New York (MANY) offers a series of informal meet-ups for museum professionals in each of New York State’s 10 REDC regions. This year, MANY is adding six professional development opportunities to their schedule: four Re-Visioning Change workshops, following the theme of MANY’s 2018 Annual Conference; the relaunch of The Museum Institute at Great Camp Sagamore; and Risk Management for Collections, a program offered by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. New Board President at Museum Assoc of New York

On April 10, 2018, Suzanne LeBlanc, President of Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) began her tenure as President of the Museum Association of New York’s (MANY) Board of Directors at their annual conference.

NY Museum Professionals in the Washington, DC office of New York Senator Charles SchumerLast week we were in Washington, D.C. for Museums Advocacy Day sponsored by the American Alliance for Museums. We learned some important things about New York’s Museums that made us proud to speak up for our sector.

Oxford Economics’ 2017 national report “Museums as Economic Engines” found that the total annual economic impact of Museums in New York State is $5.4 billion dollars – equal to that of the state’s agricultural industries and second only to California in contributions to our nation’s economy.
