Elmer Ellsworth, 11th NY Fire Zouaves at Peekskill
The Lincoln Depot Museum has announced a special presentation, Elmer Ellsworth and the 11th New York Fire Zouaves, has been set for Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 7:30 pm.
The 11th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized in New York City in May 1861 as a Zouave regiment, known for its unusual dress and drill style, by Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth, a personal friend of President Abraham Lincoln. Drawn from the ranks of the city’s many volunteer fire companies, the unit was known alternately as the Ellsworth Zouaves, First Fire Zouaves, First Regiment New York Zouaves, and U.S. National Guards. Peekskill Talk: The 5th NY Infantry ‘Duryée’s Zouaves’
The Lincoln Depot Museum has announced the first event of their fall line-up has been set for Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at 7:30 pm. This living history talk will be led by Bill Wienecke, and focus on the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry.
The 5th New York Volunteer Infantry, also known as “Duryée’s Zouaves”, was a volunteer infantry regiment of the Union Army, during the American Civil War, led by Colonel Abram Duryée. Modeled, like other Union and Confederate infantry regiments, on the French Zouaves of Crimean War fame, its tactics and uniforms were different from those of the standard infantry. Peekskill: Lincoln Society Gala Set For March 24th
The annual Lincoln Society Gala has been set for Saturday, March 24th, at the Mansion at Colonial Terrace, 119 Oregon Rd, in Cortlandt Manor.
The event will mark the 115th anniversary of the founding of the organization, one of the oldest Lincoln groups in the United States.

Peekskill: Lincoln’s Other War: WWII Lincoln Propaganda
The Lincoln Depot Museum will continue their Fall Lecture Series on Saturday, October 28th, from 1 to 4 pm with noted scholar and author Brian Snee.
Brian Snee will discuss how Lincoln was re-born to support the World War Two effort, anti-isolationism and sell war bonds.

Peekskill Lecture: Presidential Visits at Gettysburg
The Lincoln Depot Museum in Peekskill, NY, will continue their Fall Lecture Series on Saturday, September 30th with noted scholar and author Jay Jorgensen.
The talk, “Presidential Visits at Gettysburg” begins with an in-depth look at Lincoln’s visit and the newspaper coverage around the nation. Jay will conclude with a discussion on a number of the more interesting visits to GB by various post-Civil War presidents. Mr. Jorgensen will also have copies of his books for sale at the event.
