Dutch Architect, André Hoek at Historic Hudson

dutch architectureDutch Architect André Hoek is set to give a lecture on “A Dutch Approach to Historic Preservation, Preserving ‘Spirit of Place'” on Sunday, March 25th from 4 to 6 pm at Stair Galleries, (Upstairs), 549 Warren Street, in Hudson, NY. Following the lecture, wine and other beverages will be served.

André Hoek, a Dutch architect specializing in historic preservation, will speak about the techniques and tools developed in the Netherlands to survey, study, restore, protect and maintain historic buildings and gardens. Columbia County on Toll Roads Lecture Nov 12th

east gate toll houseHistoric Hudson and the Columbia County Historical Society have announced an illustrated lecture: “All Roads to the River: The 1799 Columbia Turnpike and Historic Toll Houses,” to be held Saturday, November 12, 4 pm at the Vanderpoel House, 16 Broad Street, in Kinderhook.

Two Toll Houses still stand on either end of Route 23 in Columbia County – both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the East Gate (Hillsdale) and the West Gate (Greenport), they marked the beginning and the end of Columbia County’s first turnpike, established in 1799 by the New York State Assembly.
