Swiftwater Rescue at West Stony Creek

Vehicle plunges into West Stony Creek courtesy of Bill MahanOn Monday, May 4 at 12:30 pm, while conducting a fly-over patrol, New York State Police Aviation noticed a vehicle in West Stony Creek  in the Town of Benson, in Hamilton County.

State Police notified DEC Forest Ranger Lt. Dave Kallen, who responded to the location and found a 61-year-old man from Northville trapped in a vehicle about 25 feet from shore down a 15-foot embankment. [Read more…] about Swiftwater Rescue at West Stony Creek

Rangers Seize Ramps, Issue A Half-Dozen Tickets

Rob Morse reported they were patrolling Alder Lake in the Town of Hardenburgh, Ulster County, on May 7, 2020 following a complaint about individuals picking ramps (wild leeks, Allium tricoccum) on State land.

Barricaded Bears In Sullivan County

Barricaded yearling black bears in Rock Hill courtesy DECOn April 15, NYS Environmental Conservation Officers Glen Parker and Ricky Wood reported that they responded to a bear complaint in Rock Hill,  Sullivan County.

Rock Climbers Ticketed For Violating Falcon Closures

View of Poke O MoonshineDEC Forest Ranger Sarah Bode cited two rock climbers April 11 for climbing on routes at Poke O Moonshine that are temporarily closed to protect peregrine falcon nesting sites.
