Grant Will Support Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse Preservation

Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse

The Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse was initially constructed in 1850 at the intersection of Route 9H and Fisher Road as the District #6 Schoolhouse for the town of Kinderhook.

Although the structure was moved just 200 yards from its original location in 1974, it remains an excellent and intact example of a rural, one-room schoolhouse with a gable roof, clapboard siding, and a single pent-roofed entrance. Hudson River Capt Telling History Stories in Kinderhook

Stanley WilcoxU.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Capt. Stanley Wilcox is set to speak in a program entitled “Tales of the Majestic Hudson: Rare and Little Known Stories of the Hudson River Valley” in Kinderhook, Columbia County, NY.

The Hudson River Valley begins above Albany and winds south for 150 miles to the New York Harbor, where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Native Americans, Dutch settlers, British forces, and American revolutionaries all left footprints, stories, and legends in the Hudson Valley. Early American Portraits Lecture Planned In Kinderhook

Early American/Columbia County Portraits from the permanent collection of the CCHSThe Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS) has announced an illustrated lecture, “Early American Portraits,” led by Gayle Skluzacek, set for Saturday, January 19th, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at Van Buren Hall in Kinderhook.

Early American and Columbia County Portrait Paintings are the theme of this two-part Winter Lecture Series. The first lecture will explore Early American portraiture, focusing on the East Coast, including Philadelphia, New York and Boston. Lecture Planned On Town of Ghent’s Bicentennial

town of ghent paintingColumbia County Historical Society Volunteers are set to present “200 Hundred Years of Ghent-ness” a free, illustrated lecture by Ghent Historian, Gregg Berninger, on Tuesday, November 20th at 7 pm at Van Buren Hall in Kinderhook Village.

Dutch Architect, André Hoek at Historic Hudson

dutch architectureDutch Architect André Hoek is set to give a lecture on “A Dutch Approach to Historic Preservation, Preserving ‘Spirit of Place'” on Sunday, March 25th from 4 to 6 pm at Stair Galleries, (Upstairs), 549 Warren Street, in Hudson, NY. Following the lecture, wine and other beverages will be served.

André Hoek, a Dutch architect specializing in historic preservation, will speak about the techniques and tools developed in the Netherlands to survey, study, restore, protect and maintain historic buildings and gardens.
