New York State Makes Large Investment in Renewable Energy

Solar Farm -Alternative Renewable EnergyNew York State Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced what she called the largest state investment in renewable energy in United States history.

The conditional awards include three offshore wind and 22 land-based renewable energy projects totaling 6.4 gigawatts of clean energy, enough to power 2.6 million New York homes and deliver approximately 12 percent of New York’s electricity needs once completed. The 128th NY Regiment & Columbia County Contributions to the Union Army

Admiral Farragut’s Fleet Engaging the Rebel Batteries at Port Hudson, March 14th, 1863 during the Civil WarThe 128th New York Infantry Regiment was a volunteer regiment from Columbia and Dutchess Counties during the American Civil War. Formed in Hudson, New York, on September 5, 1862, by Colonel David S. Cowles, the regiment fought at the Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana and was part of the Shenandoah Valley Campaign.

Over the course of the war, many of the regiment died or were taken prisoner and sent to the infamous Confederate Libby Prison. Colonel Cowles died with many of his men in battle at Port Hudson, while attempting to reopen the Mississippi River to the Union . Clinton County’s Irish Immigrant Legacy

John McGaulley's TruckMany people from Clinton County, NY have ancestors from Ireland or Canada. In the 1850 census, in the Town of Ausable, one in four people were born in Canada or Ireland. In the Town of Clinton, every other person would have been born in Canada or Ireland.
