how to weed your atticChimney Point State Historic Site is set to host its first “Blast from the Past” program of 2019 on the porch. “How to Weed Your Attic” will take place on Sunday, July 21st, from 2 to 4 pm.

Archivists Elizabeth H. Dow and Lucinda P. Cockrell will share their insights and advice on how to “weed” your attic of junk, without destroying history. They will offer a presentation followed by questions. Attendees are welcome to bring items or photos of items to ask for advice.

Atlatl Championship Weekend at Chimney Point

the Lake Champlain BridgeThe annual Northeastern Open Atlatl Championship weekend at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison, Vermont has been set for September 21 to 23, 2018, part of Vermont’s Archaeology Month.

The event includes an atlatl-making workshop on Friday and basswood bark strip basket-making on Sunday, and demonstrations and the competition on Saturday. The Chimney Point field, on the shore of Lake Champlain, is set up for the accuracy and distance competitions. Contestants from all over New England and New York use an atlatl, an ancient spear-throwing tool, to test their prowess in accuracy and distance by throwing at a variety of targets. Lake Champlain bridgeA guided walk focusing on the history of the area around the Lake Champlain Bridge has been set for Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 1 pm.

This event is the first of two “Points of Interest” guided bridge walks offered this year by the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison, Vermont, and Crown Point State Historic Site in Crown Point, New York. Ham Radio Field Days at Chimney Point This Weekend

Members of the Addison County Amateur Radio Association will be at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison on Saturday, from 1 to 5 pm, and Sunday, from 9:30 am to 2 pm. ‘Five Formidable Forts’ Tour Set For September

Crown Point - Photo by John WarrenThe public is invited to take a once-ever packaged tour, on Saturday, September 12, 2015, of Champlain lake shore sites where five military forts were built between 238 and 325 years ago.

Historians will lead guests on a tour of the archaeological sites of two early forts (1660, 1731) at Chimney Point in Addison, Vermont; the ruins of two forts (1734, 1759) in Crown Point, New York; and a Revolution War fort site (1776) in Orwell, Vermont.
