Canal Day at Schoharie Crossing

schoharie crossing canal daysThe annual Canal Day event at Schoharie Crossing has been set for Saturday, July 6 from 11 am to 4 pm.

This year the festival is being held in conjunction with the Tri-County Old Power Associates Engine Show as well as the Metis Nation St. Kateri PowWow. Canal Days at Schoharie Crossing Historic Site

canal daysSchoharie Crossing is set to host the annual Canal Days Festival on July 14-15 from 11 am to 4 pm. This event is a free community festival celebrating the Erie Canal and the character of the people and towns along the way. This event is part of the continuing celebration of the Erie Canal Bicentennial. The Erie Canal was started in 1817 and completed in 1825.

This year’s festival will feature a participatory balloon art installation by Airigami. This company has been creating unique art displays which have been showcased around the world. As part of the Canal Days festivities, they will be supervising the creation of a large Erie Canal packet boat mural out of environmentally friendly balloons. Canal Events Planned for 2017 Season

Amsterdam Riverlink Park concertThe Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the New York State Canal Corporation have teamed up to sponsor 27 festivals and events in 2017 to showcase the Canalway Corridor’s nationally significant heritage and the tremendous recreational appeal of the waterway and Canalway Trail today. Events include cycling and paddling tours, canal festivals, and concerts on the waterfront.

The canal system is scheduled to open May 19, weather permitting, with an opening ceremony to take place at Lock 2 in Waterford at 10 am. [Read more…] about Canal Events Planned for 2017 Season
