Seth Green, born on March 19, 1817, to a poor farming family in what was then a remote area along Culver Road in Rochester, New York, is considered a father of American fish culture and aquaculture.

The Caledonia Fish Hatchery, located in Livingston County, NY, between the Villages of Mumford and Caledonia was founded in 1864 by the “Father of Fish Culture,” Seth Green.
