Adk Stream Crossing Restored After Boquet Barrier Removed

This summer the Ausable Freshwater Center (AFC) finished a stream restoration at the Moss Road crossing of the North Branch Boquet River in the Town of Lewis, in Essex County, NY, by removing two old, undersized culverts to restore a natural river channel.

The culverts that had constricted the river and blocked fish for decades are now gone, and a natural channel carries the river through the road crossing. Glacial Lakes in the Ausable River Valley

At the close of the last Ice Age about 13,200 years ago glacial ice formed a dam across the valley of the East Branch Ausable River creating a series of lakes that overflowed into adjacent watersheds through mountain passes.

Volunteers Needed for Annual Ausable River Cleanup

The Ausable Freshwater Center (AFC) will host its annual Earth Day Ausable River cleanup on Saturday, April 19. AFC is looking for volunteers to remove garbage and debris from roadways and riverbanks in the Lake Placid, Wilmington, Jay, Upper Jay, and Keene communities in the Adirondacks. Tour Styles Brook Watershed With Author Lorraine Duvall

The Ausable Freshwater Center (AFC) will host Adirondack author Lorraine Duvall on Thursday, October 17th, from 10 am until noon for a tour of the Styles Brook watershed in the Adirondacks.

Free Tours with the Ausable Freshwater Center
