Adirondack Foothills Unit Management Plan Comments Sought

Adirondack Foothills UMPThe New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking public comment on the draft Adirondack Foothills Unit Management Plan (UMP). The draft UMP includes six State forests — Hogsback, Popple Pond, Woodhull, Punkeyville, Black Creek, and Hinckley — as well as 24 separate parcels of detached Forest Preserve in Oneida and Herkimer counties and will guide management of these properties over the next 10 years. ATV crash in Redfield in July 2023On Sunday, July 2 at 5 pm, a New York State Forest Ranger, Environmental Conservation Officer, New York State Police, Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, and Redfield Fire and Rescue responded to an ATV crash on Little John Drive near Blount Mills Drive in the town of Redfield, Oswego County.

ATV Minimum Age Bill Passes Both Houses

child atv riderOn Thursday, June 1st, the NYS Senate announced that it had granted final passage to bill S.2702/A.150 which would amend the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law to increase the minimum age for operating an all-terrain vehicle without adult supervision to 14 years of age. ATV Goes Through Lake Ice; Man Dies In Snowmobile Crash

ATV through the ice on Waneta LakeOn December 20th, Retired Forest Ranger Lieutenant Morse reported an ATV broke through the ice on Waneta Lake in Willowemoc Wild Forest in the Catskills town of Rockland, Sullivan County. Ranger Stratton responded and issued tickets to the two subjects from Pennsylvania for unauthorized motor vehicle use on state land. A tow company removed the ATV from the lake.

Two days later, on December 22, 2022, at around 3:12 am, State Police responded to a report of a snowmobile crash with injuries on a snowmobile trail off the Wallace Road in the town of Louisville. ATV Drivers Caught Riding on Forest Preserve Land
