Adirondack Park Developer Rejects Conservation Design

marsh at north end of Woodward Lake taken from the roadEven during the summer’s pandemic, development submittals to the Adirondack Park Agency (APA), which oversees land use in the Adirondack Park, have not slowed very much.

Case in point: the proposed developer of Woodward Lake in Fulton County has submitted additional information to the APA this month of July. The Agency has issued multiple requests for additional information since the applicant, New York Land and Lakes LLC of Oneonta, first submitted an application in 2018. Their plan is to subdivide an undeveloped 1,100-acre lake and forest near Northville in the Adirondack Park into 37 second home lots, driveways and onsite septic. David Gibson: Connect New High Peaks Ideas to Management Plan

adirondack wildAdirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve recognized the initial efforts of the High Peaks Strategic Planning Advisory Group which issued an interim report last week.

In a statement to the press, Adirondack Wild’s David Gibson said: “An advisory body of diverse stakeholders, all volunteers, has been meeting distantly during the pandemic but nonetheless has reached consensus on recommendations to address some key existing pressure points in the High Peaks Wilderness region. (Rick) Hoffman of Easton, Washington County, to join its board of directors and Sunita Halasz of Saranac Lake to join its advisory council. Adirondack Wild: Rail-Trail Plan Fails to Assess Impacts

adirondack wildA DEC plan for the 119-mile Travel Corridor that runs through the heart of the Adirondack Park does not adequately assess actual and projected impacts on the Park’s public wilderness and natural resources according to the group Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve.

At issue is whether the plan complies with the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan. Adirondack Wild does not believe it does comply. The group filed comments on the Remsen-Lake Placid Travel Corridor Unit Management Plan amendment with the Adirondack Park Agency this week.
