Hamilton Descendant Lends Objects to Schuyler Sisters Exhibition

Exhibition curator Diane Shewchuk Albany Institute Executive Director Tammis Groft and Hamilton descendant Douglas Hamilton unpack Elizabeth Schuyler Hamiltons embroidered handkerchiefDouglas Hamilton, a fifth great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, has lent objects to be shown in The Schuyler Sisters & Their Circle exhibition at the Albany Institute of History & Art.

The objects, recently on view at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia as part of their “Year of Hamilton” display, include a Society of the Cincinnati Eagle insignia owned by Alexander Hamilton and a gold mourning ring belonging to Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton’s Birth, Wedding, and Newburgh Conspiracy

discovering hamiltonThe Fort Plain Museum is set to welcome back Hamilton Historian Michael E. Newton on Wednesday, July 17, to discuss three of the most interesting topics from his new book Discovering Hamilton (Eleftheria Publishing, 2019).

Based on newly discovered legal testimonies from St. Croix, Newton presents new evidence and conclusions regarding Alexander Hamilton’s birthdate, places of residence, religion, parents, and more. He will also scrutinize a well-known “fact” regarding Hamilton’s wedding to Elizabeth Schuyler (which took place at the Schuyler Mansion in Albany) and will reexamine Hamilton’s involvement in the Newburgh Conspiracy. NYC Elections of 1800: Alexander Hamilton and Horatio Gates

Alexander Hamilton portrait by John Trumbull 1806On October 28, 2018, the Lower Manhattan Historical Association (LMHA), the Sons of the Revolution of the State of New York, the New York Veteran Corps of Artillery, and various French civic and military groups will hold the Sixth Annual Saratoga/Yorktown celebration in the cemetery at St. Paul’s Chapel and at Trinity Churchyard.

This celebration is intended to honor the American victories in the two most important battles of the American Revolution — the Battles of Saratoga on October 17, 1777 and the Battle of Yorktown on October 19, 1781. It is also intended to honor three important Revolutionary War figures connected with those battles who are buried in Trinity Churchyard — General Horatio Gates, Alexander Hamilton, and Marinus Willett. Alexander Hamilton on Finance, Credit, and DebtFinancial historians Richard Sylla and David J. Cowen’s new book Alexander Hamilton on Finance, Credit, and Debt (Columbia Univ Press, 2018) traces the development of Alexander Hamilton’s financial thinking through a selection of his writings.

Hamilton’s influence on the United States financial system extends through public finance, central banking, money and currency, banking, bond and stock markets, business corporations, and the issuing of government debt.

New Book, Programs Planned On Hamilton-Burr Letters

letter exchanged between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron BurrFenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown has received funding for new programs and a publication based on 35 letters between American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr – the man who killed him in a duel in 1804.

Alexander and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton Events Planned In Albany

A painting of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton From Friday, July 14, 2017 to Sunday, July 16, 2017, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site in conjunction with the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society will host a series of events and lectures about Alexander Hamilton and his wife, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, on the mansion grounds.

The festivities begin Friday evening at 5:30 pm with an open reception on mansion grounds and conclude with a walking tour of Albany on Sunday morning. Admission for each day’s activities is $5 per person. Registration for lectures and the walking tour are required as space is limited.
