A tour of historic Rome and Westernville has been set for Sunday, July 29th from noon to 5 pm, as part of the Rome Historical Society’s Tour of Homes community celebration.
Eight noteworthy properties and their unique histories will be showcased during Honor America Days weekend. This year’s Tour of Homes includes both residential and commercial buildings, ranging from an 1856 former church to a newly-built historic home reproduction, to the 1894 mansion of a significant Rome leader. A new study of the economic impact of events and tours in the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor estimated $1.5 billion annually is generated by events, boat tours, bicycle and paddle-sport rentals and historic site/museum tours along the Erie, Champlain, Owsego and Cayuga-Seneca Canals. Events and tours drew 3.3 million visitors in 2017.
