Hyde Collection Announces Its 2018 Exhibitions

Cycles Perfecta, 1902, by Alphonse MuchaThe Hyde Collection museum in Glens Falls has announced its 2018 exhibition schedule.

The lineup offers modern art exhibited in Feibes & Schmitt Gallery, including the lines of Art Nouveau, graphic prints from an Adirondack artist, the works of female Impressionists, the annual High School Juried Show, and a showing of the Nuremberg Chronicle from the permanent collection. Oneida County History Show and Tell Saturday

oneida county show and tellThe Oneida County History Center in Utica has announced a History Show and Tell event is planned for Saturday, January 13 at 1 pm at the Center.

Broome Co Local History Conference Set For April

bundy museumThe Bundy Museum of History and Art in Broome County has announced that they are planning to hold a conference on local history on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

The museum is seeking a wide range of histories and historians. Submissions from amateur enthusiasts, family historians, K-12 teachers, preservationists, high school and college students, professional historians, storytellers, librarians, and museum employees. Upper Hudson-Mohawk Decorative Arts Symposium Set For May

Mabee Farm in Rotterdam The Decorative Arts Trust has announced they will host the Spring 2018 Symposium, The Upper Hudson: Four Centuries of Craft and Commerce from May 2-6, 2018.

The program combines behind-the-scenes tours of the area’s noteworthy museums and historic sites, special visits to private collections, and lectures by leading scholars and experts on topics concerning the decorative arts, conservation, and historic preservation. Beacon Lecture On World War II’s ‘Captain Dixie’

the indestructible man bookThe Beacon Sloop Club’s 2018 winter lecture series is planned to begin on Thursday January 11th at 7 pm with The Indestructible Man-The True Story of a World War II Hero “Captain Dixie” by Author David Rocco, at the Beacon Sloop Clubhouse, 2 Flynn Drive, in Beacon, NY.

The Indestructible Man is the story of Navy officer Dixie Kiefer, who was an instrumental player in major battles in World War II. Kiefer was the executive officer on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown at both the Battle of the Coral Sea and Battle of Midway. He was the last man off Yorktown before she sank at Midway. 3 Unique Maps Headed for NYC Winter Antiques Fair

bromley map of manhattenDaniel Crouch Rare Books have announced that they plan to bring maps of three of the biggest cities in the world to the Winter Antique Show, which runs from January 19-28th in New York’s Park Avenue Armory.

Visitors to the Winter Antiques show will be able to see a display of George and Walter Bromley’s ‘Atlas of the City of New York – Borough of Manhattan’ from 1908: a pink 25’ wide fire insurance map in 38 individually framed sheets. Museum Professional Development Grants Offered

NYSCA professional development grantsThe New York State Council on the Arts Museum Program, in partnership with CNY Arts, has announced they will again offer Professional Development Grants to eligible museums across New York State in 2018.

They have just over $33,000 to award. Museums may apply for up to $750 for a professional development opportunity for one or more staff or volunteers. Registration Open for Cycle the Erie Canal 2018

parks and trails nyRegistration is now open for Parks & Trails New York’s 20th anniversary Cycle the Erie Canal tour, an opportunity to bike across New York State and take in the rich history of the canal that transformed America.
