The Story of Mohawk Airlines (1945 – 1972)
First headquartered in Ithaca, NY, Mohawk Airlines operated from the Oneida County Airport in Oriskany, NY. It was a regional passenger airline that covered the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States from the mid-1940s until it was bought by Allegheny Airlines in 1972.
At its peak, it employed over 2,200 personnel. It was a pioneer in regional airline operations, including being the first airline in the United States to hire an African American flight attendant and the first to offer a pressurized cabin. Woman & Two Dogs Rescued In The Adirondack High Peaks
New York State Forest Rangers rescued a woman and her two dogs who became lost while hiking Mount Marcy, New York State’s highest mountain, located in the Adirondack High Peaks.
On November 15th at 2:45 pm, the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Ray Brook Dispatch requested Forest Ranger assistance with the search for a hiker on Mount Marcy. Womens Rights History: ‘The Night Of Terror’
The Silent Sentinels, or Sentinels of Liberty, organized by Alice Paul and the National Woman’s Party, were a group of over 2,000 women demanding women’s suffrage by silently protesting in front of the White House during Woodrow Wilson’s presidency beginning on January 10, 1917. About 500 were arrested, with at least 168 serving jail time – many of them from New York State, a birthplace of the suffrage and women’s rights movements.
Over the two and a half year long protest many of the women who picketed were arrested, harassed and abused by local and federal authorities, most notably being tortured while in local jails. Adirondack Hikers Rescued By Helicopter In Two Separate Incidents
On Sunday, October 30th, at 1:30 pm, while New York State Forest Rangers were battling two wildfires in other parts of the State, DEC’s Ray Brook Dispatch requested Forest Ranger assistance for a hiker with a lower leg injury near the summit of Mount Marcy.

NYS Forest Rangers Battle Numerous Wildfires Exacerbated By Dry Conditions
New York State Forest Rangers joined local firefighters from multiple fire companies to fight numerous wildfires in New York State on Sunday as careless campfires and debris burning combined with dry conditions. Advocates: Adirondack Park Agency Should Comply With State Climate Goals
Protect the Adirondacks (PROTECT) has called upon the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) to include, as part of its permit application review, an evaluation of the direct and upstream greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the large-scale subdivision and resort complex proposed by Eric Stackman in the Town of Jay, Essex County.
