For the first time in 15 years, the New York State Division for Historic Preservation is opening the doors to the Peebles Island Resource Center and inviting the public to explore a behind-the-scenes look at the labs that support New York’s state historic sites.
The free public open house event will take place at Peebles Island State Park on October 15, 16, and 17 from 9 am until 3 pm daily. No registration necessary.
On your visit, you can watch conservators work to preserve fabrics, chat with archeologists and learn how they uncover buried history and explore the labyrinthian facility that safely stores some of New York’s most important historic objects.
Highlights include access to object conservation labs, hands-on activities, special talks, guided tours of the historic factory complex, the “Revisit the Revolution” traveling exhibition, and much more.
Peebles Island State Park is at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. It offers spectacular river and rapids views for walkers and joggers who take advantage of the miles of paths through the gently rolling and wooded landscape.
Parking available but may become limited. For those in need of reasonable accommodation contact ADA Coordinator Owen Gilbo at (518) 402-2648 or Owen.Gilbo@parks.ny.gov. This event is free and open to the public.
