Readers, writers, and supporters – thanks so much for the contributions to New York Almanack for 2025. Without your help we couldn’t publish – it’s as simple as that. So many people contribute every week from writing essays to making a recurring gift – thank you all.
Here in the Adirondacks winter seemed to arrive very suddenly this year. Although it’s above freezing today, there’s been some early ice on the lakes. We got the firewood in just before the snow and worked with friends in the sugar bush to get mostly ready for this spring’s maple sugar making. 2025 was a busy year around the cabin and now I’m just trying to catch up, keep up, and act up.
If you’re not subscribed to the Almanack email you can do that here. If you haven’t had an opportunity to support this local media effort, we still have money left to raise for 2025 – please make a contribution here.
I’ve been getting ready for the Albany Film Festival‘s short film contest showing March 28, 2026 at the University at Albany. If you like film – it’s free – join me for a great day of short films amid the rest of the lively film festival fare. Submit your film, or just learn more at the Festival’s Film Freeway webpage.
Thanks again for all your support of the Almanack, which enters it’s 18th year in 2026. I’m so glad so many find it worthwhile. Your contributions, large and small, kind notes, sharing and encouragements are all very much appreciated.
In hopes for a better year for us all,
John Warren
