The Saratoga County 250th American Revolution Commission will host a presentation by Ben Powers of the American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR) on Friday, October 24, at 6:30 pm at the Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center, 30 Ferry Street, in Schuylerville, NY.
Powers will discuss AVAR’s 2021 archaeological project at Saratoga National Historical Park, where veterans and researchers studied the site of the Second Battle of Saratoga (the Battle of Bemis Heights), fought October 7, 1777.
Their discoveries in Barber’s Wheatfield shed new light on the battlefield’s tactics and terrain that led to the surrender of British General John Burgoyne — a defining moment in America’s fight for independence.
The free, public program is presented as part of the Saratoga 250 Semiquincentennial commemoration.
