The Oneida County Sheriff’s office has identified two Saratoga County men who were killed in an early Saturday morning fire at a hunting camp in on Nichols Mills Road in Forestport, in northeast Oneida County, in the Adirondack Park.
Joseph M. Funk, 64, of Gansevoort and Thomas Dingmon, 78, of Middle Grove were found at about 1:25 am at the camp, after two other men escaped the flames.
The two who escaped, Bruce Siergiey, 64, of Queensbury, and Michael S. Hastings, 63, of Fort Edward and made an about eight-mile trip to a residence on Horton Road by ATV for help.
They were treated at the scene for burns by the Forestport Fire Department. Siergiey was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Hastings was flown to Upstate Hospital with burn injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although investigators believe the fire was likely caused by a wood stove being used to heat the cabin.
Hunting seasons for deer and bear are currently underway for hunters using bows and muzzleloaders.
