Adirondack Wild Annual Meeting Set, Awardees Named

adirondack wildThe nonprofit advocate Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve will host its Annual Meeting of Members and Friends at on Friday October 6, 2023, at Newcomb’s Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) in the Adirondacks in Essex County, NY.

The meeting will begin with with presentations from Adirondack Wild’s staff and board members and an audience Q&A.

At 1 pm, after a lunch break, the meeting will hear from SUNY ESF Newcomb campus associate director Paul Hai about progress made during this first year of the Timbuctoo Climate and Career Institute involving students from the City University of New York’s Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.

Afterward, Executive Director of the Adirondack Diversity Initiative (ADI), Tiffany Rea-Fisher, will speak about initiatives and projects ADI is pursuing in 2023 and beyond. Adirondack Wild is a partner with ADI. More information about ADI can be found on the web at diversityadk.org.

At 2 pm Adirondack Wild will celebrate its two awardees:

The 2023 Paul Schaefer Wilderness Award will be presented to the Steve Englebright, former Chair of the NYS Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee for his 30 years of leadership to improve New York State’s environmental quality and quality of life of all New York’s residents and visitors; and

The 2023 Wild Stewardship Award will be presented to the staff and board members of the Northeast Wilderness Trust, headquartered in Montpelier, Vermont, for the organization’s 20-year record of negotiating, acquiring, preserving and connecting wild lands throughout the Adirondacks and the Northern Forest.

This event will run from 11 am to 3 pm and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available, participants should bring a bag lunch. Advance Registration is appreciated, email to: krimany@adirondackwild.org

Newcomb’s Visitor Interpretive Center is operated by the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at their Newcomb campus, located at 5922 State Route 28N in Newcomb, Essex County, NY.

Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve is a not for profit, membership organization devoted to the protection and stewardship of wilderness and other wild lands through advocacy and education. The organization protects wild lands from threats, holds officials accountable and proposes policy reforms. More on the web at adirondackwild.org.
