The Hudson River Valley Greenway has launched an online, interactive Greenway Trail System Map to illustrate and highlight the network of designated Greenway trails throughout the Hudson Valley. The map includes nearly 1,000 miles of designated land trails and over 115 designated water trail sites along the 256-mile Hudson River Greenway Water Trail.
Although the map allows users to discover the location of designated trails and water trail sites and will aid in drafting grant applications and planning for future trail connections, it is not meant for navigational use according to Greenway officials. The map was developed for illustrative and planning purposes only and may not reflect actual ground locations and measurements.
In 1991 the Greenway was created in part to establish a network of multi-use trails along both sides of the Hudson River. The Greenway has assisted communities and trail groups throughout the Hudson Valley to establish a network of trails that connect resources such as riverfront parks, historic sites, nature preserves, train stations, business districts, and more. The Greenway Trail System consists of two main components: a land trail and a water trail for paddling and boating.
The Greenway Trail System Map includes the Hudson Valley portion of the 750-mile Empire State Trail and State Bike Route 9.
