On May 27, while attending the “Barn Star’s Antiques at Rhinebeck,” semi-annual antique show held at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Investigators Conway and Bastedo discovered numerous items made from parts of endangered animals that are illegal to sell in New York State.
The Officers called in Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) Johnson and Swansen to assist and seized dozens of items made from endangered sea turtles and elephant ivory, valued at more than $100,000, from seven different vendors.
In total, ECOs issued five Notices of Violation and two tickets to the companies and individuals selling the items.
