The Historical Society of Woodstock (HSW) in Ulster County, NY, will open their 2023 program season with the exhibition “In with the Old: Recent Acquisitions of the Historical Society of Woodstock,” on Saturday, May 6th. “In with the Old” offers a glimpse at recent donations, including artifacts, artwork, letters, photographs, clothing, and more that are now part of HSW’s diverse collection representing Woodstock’s unique story.
An opening reception will take place from 3 to 5 pm on May 6th. Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. Before the reception, at 2 pm, HSW will unveil the newly renovated Tool Shed exhibit and a permanent Woodstock history exhibit, “The Tools They Used — A History of Woodstock Through Tools.”
Until the beginning of the 20th century the Town of Woodstock was an agricultural rural community. The town was largely self-sufficient in that people grew or produced most of what they needed to live a good life. The Tool Shed exhibit will tell some of the stories of the people of Woodstock from the mid-1800s until the mid-1900s, showing a sample of the types of work in which these people engaged through the tools on display.
“In with the Old: Recent Acquisitions of the Historical Society of Woodstock” will be open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm from May 6th through May 28th.
The Historical Society of Woodstock is located at 20 Comeau Drive in Woodstock. For more information visit their website.
