Copake Iron Works has announced the inauguration of the Pomeroy Family Railroad at the Copake Iron Works at Copake Falls in Columbia County, NY is set for Wednesday, June 7th.
The event will feature guests including NYS Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid, Bill Pomeroy, Founder of the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, whose gift ensured the success of the railroad project, and other dignitaries.
Volunteers are needed to run the train, including engineers to operate the locomotive and conductors to handle the passengers. The locomotive and two cars carrying about a dozen passengers will run around a 900 foot loop at about 5 miles per hour.
Operating the locomotive is not difficult, but all engineers must receive some basic training. Conductors must be trained also in the simple procedures to ensure the safety of the passengers. To volunteer, email jim.mackin@friendsoftsp.org.
