Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children will host a celebration of the life of Martha Heck Ulman, author and historian, and officially launch The Power for Good: Clara B. Spence (Palmetto Publishing 2022), published just days before her passing, set for Tuesday, March 14th.
The book event will take place in the new Ronay Menschel Hall at the Museum of the City of New York, with a cocktail reception in the museum’s Rotunda space. The program will include a panel discussion moderated by Josh Taylor, host of the PBS series Genealogy Roadshow, and President of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B).
Panelists will include Carol Berkin, Presidential Professor of History and Women’s and Gender Studies, Emerita, of Baruch College & The Graduate Center, CUNY; Miriam Cohen, Professor Emerita of History at Vassar College; Valerie Paley, SVP, Director of New-York Historical Society’s Patricia D. Klingenstein Library.
Guests will be able to learn more through this discussion about the impact of Clara Spence on adoption, the education of girls and women, and the history of New York City.
Attendees will be invited to walk through the museum’s latest World City exhibit, all while learning more about the impact of Martha Heck Ulman and her biography.
