Era Zistel Posselt: Author of Catskills Animal Stories

March 7, 2023 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

Era Zistel PosseltEra Zistel Posselt (1904–1997) was a mid-western woman, who came to New York from Ohio to further her career and fell in love with the Catskills. She is remembered affectionately as a long-time librarian of Haines Falls and a remarkable lover of animals.

Era Zistel became a prolific author of books about the animals she encountered both, wild and domestic. Books that still remain of interest to children and adults alike. Along with her husband, she translated books from German to English, and she also edited several collections of animal stories by prominent authors.

The Mountain Top Historical Society of Greene County will host a Zoom webinar on the life of Era Zistel Posselt, with Johanna Titus, MTHS Board Member and author, in honor of Women’s History Month on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at 6 pm.

For more information or to register, email mthsdirector@mths.org, call (518) 589-6657, or visit the Mountain Top Historical Society of Greene County website.
