Beacon on the Hudson: A Podcast

March 31, 2023 by Bob Cudmore Leave a Comment

In Dutchess County on the east shore of the Hudson River, Beacon is 60 miles north of New York City. The name derives from signal fires built to alert George Washington’s army across the river in Newburgh of British troop movements during the Revolutionary War.

This week on The Historians Podcast, the guest is Denise Doring VanBuren, president of the Beacon New York Historical Society and author of two books about Beacon’s history. Van Buren recently finished a term as President General of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

You can listen to the podcast here.
