Rescuing the Planet Virtual Book Talk

November 27, 2022 by Editorial Staff 1 Comment

Rescuing the Planet with Tony HissThe Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies will host a free virtual book talk with author and scholar Tony Hiss on his new book Rescuing the Planet – Protecting Half the Land to Heal the Earth, on Thursday, December 1st.

Hiss will be joined by Cary President Dr. Joshua Ginsberg and the Natural Areas Conservancy’s Executive Director Sarah Charlop-Powers.

In Rescuing the Planet, Hiss takes stock of the “superorganism” that is Earth and what we can do to keep it, and ourselves, alive. He invites readers to understand the gravity of the problems we face, and makes the case for why protecting half the land by 2025 is vital to halting the extinction crisis and ensuring the health of the planet.

His journeys across North America highlight the many organizations and individuals involved in protecting the world’s rapidly shrinking wilderness. From the boreal forest, to the pine barrens, to the piney woods – their stories introduce us to fascinating wildlife, unforgettable places, and dedicated people – providing hope for what is possible.

This program will begin at 7 pm, and will be held via Zoom. For more information or to register, click here.

Hiss is absolutely 100% correct, but getting government to company with his common sense salvation of our beautiful little planet will be hampered by the fact that every move will be blocked by far too many people of massive selfishness and stupidity and groups that will have to approve or assist in this venture, who want to do nothing but wring every last cent of profit out of this world instead of saving it.
From excessive human over-population to massive plastic and textile degradation in everything from landfills to oceans, we have so royally f**ked up this world it will take unprecedented effort to correct what is wrong, what we should have done decades ago.
I have some hope that younger people with new technology and attitudes can work a miracle, but whether or not it can actually be done will depend on a HUGE combined effort of a lot of people and countries. One look at what most are wasting their time on is enough to shakes ones’ head.
    Time will tell.
