Hunter Dies in Woods East of Lake George

forest ranger logoOn Sunday, November 27, 2022  at 9:30 am, New York State Forest Rangers were notified about a hunter having cardiac issues walking down the Pilot Knob trail to the Buck Mountain trailhead in Fort Ann, Washington County, NY, on the east side of Lake George.

When Rangers and Pilot Knob Volunteer Fire Department arrived, the hunter was unconscious. Other hunters, hikers, and fire department personnel were performing CPR on the hunter.

Rangers and EMS personnel continued these efforts. At 10:18 a.m., the hunter was declared deceased by the lead Fort Ann EMS Paramedic.  Their identity has not been released.

DEC Investigator Goodrich also responded.

Anyone in need of emergency aid in the backcountry should call 911. For other issues, including search and rescue, wildfire reports, or signs of illegal activity, call NYS Forest Rangers at 833-NYS-RANGERS.
