Fort Ticonderoga Launches New Season of Programs

Fort Ticonderoga Living History EventFort Ticonderoga has announced their new schedule of programs during its Winter Quarters season. From November through April, visitors will be immersed in living history events, engaging seminars, specialty programs, behind-the-scenes VIP Tours, and hands-on workshops.

Guests can now explore Fort Ticonderoga during what was historically the “Winter Quarters” season for armies of the 18th century. Groups of 15 or more are welcome to schedule a visit to have the entire property to themselves and a dedicated historic interpreter for a group tour.

In-person Living History Events: 10 am to 4 pm

November 12th, 2022 – A Day Longer in the Field
Meet American Provincial soldiers who were eager to go home at the end of the 1759 Campaign. With Ticonderoga and Crown Point captured, these American soldiers worked alongside British Regulars to prepare Fort Ticonderoga for winter and the following season’s advance into the heart of New France. Witness how the soldiers in 1759 dealt with the harsh realities of winter on the northern frontier. Help us make history and try out timber framing!

· December 17th, 2022 – RIOT! Yankees vs Buckskins
See how the cold and lonely existence on this forward post would lead soldiers to fighting, nearly erupting in riot at the end of 1776. Witness the fight between Pennsylvania and Massachusetts soldiers that erupted into gunfire and looting on Christmas Day.

January 14th, 2023 – 1776 Supplying our Army in Canada
Ticonderoga was a vital link in the supply chain keeping an American Army alive at the gates of Quebec City in January 1776. In this one-day living history event, explore the many needs of an army in winter from shot to shoes. See how soldiers and teamsters kept sleds running over the ice of Lake Champlain to keep Continental Army soldiers fed and clothed in Canada.

February 18th, 2023 – 1774 His Majesty’s Garrison of Ticonderoga
See Fort Ticonderoga on the eve of the American Revolution as British soldiers and their families live in this peacetime fort on the frontier. Get a hands-on perspective on what was it like to be a British soldier, soldier’s wife, or child here? Discover how soldiers and their families made a comfortable life here at this historic military post.

· March 4th, 2023 – The Bridge to 1777
In March 1777 American soldiers at Ticonderoga raced against time to prepare for the next British attack up Lake Champlain. On land and on ice soldiers labored to build a strong bridge across Lake Champlain, connecting both halves of the camp and blocking the big boats of the Royal Navy. In this one-day living history event, discover this difficult and dangerous work, and explore the myriad of military preparations afoot in March, 1777.

Virtual Author Series 2 to 3 pm

The Fort Ticonderoga Author Series features presentations by authors of books related to Fort Ticonderoga’s history. Visit their website for full descriptions. All programs require pre-registration and begin at 2 pm.

· January 15th, 2023 | Steven Elliot – “Surviving the Winters: Housing Washington’s Army during the American Revolution
· February 12th, 2023 | Claire Belerjeau – “Espionage and Enslavement in the Revolution”
· March 12th, 2023 | David O. Stewart – “George Washington: The Political Rise of America’s Founding Father
· April 16th, 2023 | James McIntyre – “A Most Gallant Resistance: The Delaware River Campaign, September-November 1777”

Virtual Fort Fever Series 7 to 8 pm

The Fort Ticonderoga Fort Fever Series features programs led by Fort Ticonderoga museum staff who share their latest research and cutting-edge discoveries. Visit their website for full descriptions. All programs require pre-registration and begin at 7 pm.

January 25th, 2023 | Kevin Maher, Artificer Shoemaker – “From Lake to Last: Reproducing Shipwreck Shoes”
February 22nd, 2023 | Dr. Matthew Keagle, Curator – “Hidden Hands: Uncovering the Black Presence in Fort Ticonderoga’s Collections”
March 22nd, 2023 | Tabitha Hubbard, Collections Manager – “Documenting, Preserving, and Making Accessible Ticonderoga’s Collections”
April 19th, 2023 | Cameron Green, Director of Interpretation – “Building British Ticonderoga”

In-person Winter Workshop Series

Fort Ticonderoga’s professional staff and tradesmen will guide you as you make your own 18th-century clothing and accoutrement during hands-on trades’ workshops. Each workshop includes a coat kit, sewing materials and lunch. Pre-registration is required and more information can be found on the Fort’s website.

· December 3-4 – Regimental Coats
· January 21-22 – Women’s Petticoat
· February 11-12 –Lined Wool Breeches
· March 25-26 – Wool Waistcoats
