Northern New York Audubon (NNYA) has announced two events to benefit their new Farm Grant Program, set for October 7th and 9th.
The Farm Grant program, which aims to connect bird conservation and farming in a mutually beneficial way, will distribute grants to local farms to fund the development of bird-friendly habitats and agricultural practices. The program launched in July at a Trivia event at Hex and Hop Brewery in Bloomingdale, in the town of St. Armand in Essex County, NY, which raised over $1,100.
The “Food and Feathers,” program is set for Friday, October 7th at 6:30 pm at Paul Smith’s VIC. The program will look at the connection between sustainable farming and migratory and resident bird conservation, and will be presented by Lisa Kiziuk and Fred de Long of the Willistown Conservation Trust.
The “Birds and Brew: Enjoy a class of Mead” program is set for Sunday, October 9th from 4 to 8 pm, at Hex and Hop Brewery in Bloomingdale. Hex and Hop Brewery will be brewing up a special Blueberry Lavender Mead. A portion of the proceeds from the mead’s sale will benefit the NNYA Small Farm Grant program. Attendees will be able to make new friends, and support bird conservation and sustainable farming in Northern New York.
The Small Farm Grant program supports Northern New York farmers with the funding, knowledge and support to implement bird conservation efforts in the region.
Northern New York Audubon is dedicated to conserving and restoring natural ecosystems in the Adirondacks, focusing on habitats of particular importance to birds, other wildlife, humanity, and the Earth’s biological diversity as a whole.
