John Jay Homestead State Historic Site will host its popular “John Jay’s Not-So-Big City” walking tour of Lower Manhattan on Saturday, October 1st.
The title of this three-hour tour refers to the fact that pre-1800 city of New York was confined to the southern tip of Manhattan Island. The tour covers the entire length of John Jay’s New York City, from south to north. The two-mile tour route includes stops at 15 locations that figured prominently in the life and career of John Jay, arguably the most prominent Founding Father born in New York.
This guided tour visits remains from the colonial times that still stand in lower Manhattan and covers 400 years of city history. The tour also explores changes in the natural environment since the time of the city’s founding.
The tour begins at 1o am at Bowling Green Park and ends near City Hall. Attendance is limited, and registration is required. The fee for the tour is $15 for members of Friends of John Jay Homestead and $20 for non-members. For more information or to register, click here.
