This week on The Historians Podcast, Joseph Collea Junior is author of Our Town–Ilion, New York: a Selective Look at 300 Years of History. An Ilion native, Collea was a history teacher and administrator in Ilion schools for many years and served three terms as mayor of the village, which is located in Herkimer County, NY.
Collea says, “You might say that I am Ilion to the core and proud to be a New Yorker.”
The book takes a look at elaborate bobsled races on the hilly village streets of Ilion in the 1880s. There is coverage of a visit to Ilion by Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960. And Collea reports on firearms maker Remington Arms and community issues with urban renewal in the village.

My great grandfather owned the Mansion House but I don’t find much about it online. His family also lived there for a while.
Was their name Flahavan? I was just trying to find out where exactly the Mansion House was located. I see mention of it in some newspapers, but no mention of an address. I guess they assumed that at the time, everyone knew where the Mansion House was.
