The Southampton History Museum has announced Long Island Indigenous Perspectives Canoe Tours, set for Saturday, July 9th, and Saturday, June 18th.
Conscience Point is known to be the original meeting place of the Shinnecock and English settlers of Southampton, Long Island, in June of 1640. This paddling tour led by Chenae Bullock of Moskehtu Consulting will take attendees on a journey through history to cover oral Indigenous history, Indigenous plant identification, Indigenous lifeways, and Indigenous songs.
Participants can bring their own canoe or kayak or rent. Tours will take place from 9 to 11 am, and paddlers are asked to arrive by 8:15 am so that vessels can be offloaded, and everyone can be ready to hit the water at 9am.
