April 26, 2022 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

NCCC logoNorth Country Community College is partnering with the Franklin County Suicide Prevention Coalition to host a pair of Mental Health Awareness events for the community – one in Malone, one in Saranac Lake – and is seeking submissions of art to showcase at each event.

Each Mental Health Awareness community event will feature mental health information and resources, food, music, art and fun activities for kids. Speakers from the community will also share their stories. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Malone event will take place Monday, May 2nd from 2 to 6 pm at North Country’s Malone Campus, located at 75 William St. The Saranac Lake Mental Health Awareness event is set for Wednesday, May 4th from 2 to 6 pm on the college’s Saranac Lake campus, 23 Santanoni Ave.

To mark Mental Health Awareness month, newly trained NCCC Peer Specialists will be providing information about the program, which was established in the Fall of 2021 in partnership with Community Connections of Franklin County.

Each event will also feature a Community Art Showcase titled “The Many Faces of Mental Health,” and submissions from the community are encouraged.

For the Malone event, submissions of original artwork can be made to Sarah DiOrio or Allyssa LaBombard at Community Connections, 7 Pearl St., Malone from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Submissions are due Thursday, April 28th.

For the Saranac Lake event, original artwork can be submitted to Rachel Stender or Zeanna Reyome at Saranac Lake High School, Door 17, from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, or to Aleacia Landon at the Saranac Lake Youth Center, 29 Woodruff St., from 2 to 7 pm, Monday through Friday. In Tupper Lake, art can be submitted at the Tupper Lake Outreach Center, 64 Demars Blvd., from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays.
