Ship pilots safely navigate marine vessels into or out of harbors. They specialize in the knowledge of weather, tides, water depths, local winds, currents and marine traffic to safely navigate a ship or vessel.
The National Lighthouse Museum in Staten Island will host “Pilot Ships in New York,” a virtual presentation by Captain Joe Ahlstrom, on Sunday, November 14th.
In this program, Ahlstrom will talk about Pilot Ships, how ship pilots help in logistics of the harbor, and how to become a ship pilot.
This event will begin at 2 pm, and will be held via Zoom. Registration is $5 for museum members, $10 for the general public. For more information or to register, email firstname.lastname@example.org, call (718) 390-0040, or visit the museum’s website.
