The East Hampton Historical Society has announced their holiday history events for the month of December, Victorian Christmas at the Moran Studio and Aglow: A Holiday Experience, to be held at the Thomas & Mary Nimmo Moran Studio.
From Christmas cards to decorated trees and Christmas crackers, many of our best-known Christmas traditions are products of the Victorian era. Victorian Christmas and Aglow: A Holiday Experience will look at the origins of many of today’s holiday customs.
Victorian Christmas at Moran Studio will be held Wednesdays through Sundays, December 1st through December 19th, and Wednesday and Thursday, December 22nd and 23rd, from 11 am to 3 pm. In Victorian Christmas at Moran Studio, the East Hampton Historical Society will look at how many of the holiday traditions that we associate with Christmas were popularized by Victorian-era families such as Mary Nimmo and Thomas Moran, and their children. Attendees will be able to see how the Morans decorated their tree and home, sang carols, sent greeting cards, and helped transform Christmas into the holiday we know and celebrate today. Pre-registration is preferred, tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased on the East Hampton Historical Society’s Events page.
Aglow: A Holiday Experience will take place on Saturday, December 11th from 5 to 7 pm. For one night only, the Thomas & Mary Nimmo Moran Studio will be transformed into a Victorian holiday celebration. Attendees will be able to tour the historic Thomas & Mary Nimmo Moran Studio, decorated for a festive Victorian Christmas, visit with Santa Claus, enjoy live Christmas music, and a make a small children’s craft.
